Our philosophy at Gen and Moon is deeply founded in the belief that your skin health is the cornerstone to confidence and can be achieved through a holistic lens aiming to bridge the gap between mind, body, and skin. We strive to empower this confidence through our expert skincare protocols, client treatment plans, and routines curated by our advanced estheticians and network of functional healthcare professionals.

Meet the Team

Sydney Rodgers

Licensed Esthetician and owner of Gen & Moon Skincare + Wellness

Sydney has always had a passion for healing the skin and making meaningful connections with those around her. Being able to offer advanced facials and waxing services with a drive for results while offering a safe space for relaxation has always been the quality she strives for. Continuing education to give her clients a well rounded experience is a passion of hers as she is currently certified in facial lymphatic drainage massage, facial cupping and gua sha techniques, as a melanoma awareness advocate through Impact Melanoma, ingredients knowledge through Concepts Institute of Advanced Esthetics, Lira Clinical Skincare Product Knowledge, hydrodermabrasion and microcurrent modalities, as a specialist in rosacea and acne prone skin, and full body specialty waxing. She is truly excited to connect with her community through her quaint spa location and all it has to offer.

Makenna Curlee

Licensed Esthetician

Makenna has been a licensed esthetician since 2019 after graduating from Federico Beauty Institute that lead her to work and train under Ulta Beauty as a Benefit arch expert, Massage Envy where she was promoted to lead esthetician for her region, and eventually as an esthetician and brow expert at Gen and Moon Skincare + Wellness where she currently undergoes continuous trainings and services clients. Makenna has an affinity for all things skincare and brows, even being featured by the brand Nova Wax for her clean eye brow shaping results. Her goal in the treatment room is to give those she treats a sense of safety as she combines her advanced trainings in microdermabrasion and chemical peels with a focus on relaxation and restful selfcare. Her love for creating a safe space where her clients receive their desired results in a judgment-free zone allows her to form connection and trust with anyone laying on her treatment table.

The Story Behind the Brand Name

I am lucky to say that from the start of my life to now I have been blessed to have been born into a world surrounded by many deeply loving generations I have been incredibly lucky to know, connect with, and allow to influence my life.

When I was born I marked the fifth generation to be alive at the same time as the four before me- meaning I got to meet, know, and love my 98 year old great great grandma we all knew as Mee Ma!

Summers spent digging into the earth at my great grandmother and Mee Mas’ house was quite impactful on my life. While things were not always easy I can quite confidently say I knew what love was from a young age thanks to these days I enjoyed here with them listening to coyotes, eating way too much ice cream, and- as hard as it is to admit now as an esthetician- getting copious amounts of sun swimming in the overchlorinated 90’s doughboy pool my great grandma set up for us kids. They created a safe space for my childhood that will always impact my life even when I am hopefully their ages one day.

During this time I was also taken under my grandmothers wing, the third generation, and felt like I not only learned how to receive love, but give it whole heartedly through touch. You see my grandma is a massage therapist and never let a day go by without many hugs and, quite gratefully I must say, massages! This is where I feel I found my passion for selflessly helping others.

I find no matter how old I get I always turn to my mother for her soft yet deeply rooted strength and unbiased advice. She inspires me to look at the world through a lens of compassion and empathy.

Fast forward to today and I now have my own holistic esthetics business in the heart of the very town I grew up. My MeeMa and Great Grandma leave behind us three remaining generations on earth: my grandma, mother, and myself.

I remember them saying “whenever you feel lonely, look at the moon and I will be there staring right back”.

Thus Gen and Moon was born.

Gen and Moon is not just an esthetics place to me. It is a place I can foster and give love, allow people to feel safe, decompress, and rest. It is a way to honor the lessons learned from these strong powerful women I have been so blessed to know.

  • I have never been happier than when I am at Gen & Moon. The walk in is a whole vibe and all my worries melted away. The atmosphere is perfect and inviting with friendly faces. I had Makenna as my esthetician, and I couldn’t be happier. She was so in depth and caring which you don’t see very much. She made sure I was comfortable in the CUTEST room I have ever been in. It didn’t feel clinical, it felt like home. From start to finish I was on another planet, it was so relaxing and her technique is amazing. She did this cool skin analysis which gave me answers vs questions. A whole skin care routine was created for me and the products I am using are clean and healthy and WORKING! Guys, she has SNACKS which helped me on my long drive home and the yummiest fruit water! This little slice of heaven in Placerville is just perfect for your skincare needs. I will always recommend this place and the women that work here. It’s amazing what they are doing there and the talent within those walls. Just book one facial and you’ll be convinced too!

  • Sydney is amazing and so sweet. I recently relocated and by chance found Sydney. Could not be happier. I love the results I have seen in just a few months of getting regular facials. It is a balance of relaxation and effective skin care. I have some challenges with aging skin, sun damage etc. My skin looks better than ever!   • I have had many facials with Sydney and I swear every single time it is the best facial I’ve ever had! She’s so incredibly knowledgeable. The best part of every facial (other than the fact that she does everything she can to help my skin) is that she is kind and so comforting. There are a lot of things that can be embarrassing or things that I feel self conscious about and Sydney has always made me feel more comfortable in my own skin.   • At Gen and Moon we encourage all new clients looking to treat their skin book either a consultation or new client facial.

  • Relaxation paired with clinical treatments is the Gen and Moon specialty. While all of our services include relaxation benefits, to truly experience a relaxation focused service we recommend our Deluxe Relaxation Facials.

  • Gen and Moon is a quaint spa with two esthetician rooms that can service couples, offer foot and arm scrubs + massages while receiving a facial, or curate custom packages for treatment plans. We offer gift certificates.

  • While most acne clients achieve results within 3-6 months there is not a timeline guaranteed due to the unique conditions, skin type, acne type, and severity of each individual. Our spa customizes treatment plans with thorough education and consultation on a case by case basis- book a new client facial or consult for more personalized advice from our team of estheticians to gain further insight for your personal case.

  • While we do not pressure sales of our retail products we do find those who invest in our recommendations have the best success achieving their skincare goals. We will always provide affordable options here at our spa with your personal goals in mind as we feel it is our duty as your skincare professional to have quality solutions available for you- education on these recommendations is something we pair with every service to ensure you are informed and confident with every purchase.

  • We recommend coming with a fresh face free of makeup, a list of any current skincare and supplements/medications being used, avoid exfoliation 3-4 days pre-service, and be prepared to avoid heat, moisture, and sun exposure for a few days post service. We will provide more thorough aftercare in our follow ups after the service is completed. Coming comfy is optional but highly encouraged!

  • Currently the best way to shop our retail is to book a product pickup via our booking link above or contact us to set up a time to browse our retail. For a targeted personalized plan we recommend booking a consultation which includes allotted time for product pickups. We also do ship orders upon request.
